about the artist
Hi, I’m Sarah. It’s nice to meet you.
Born from a decade-long dream of having my own studio, I started MADE IN CHOSS in 2023 right in my garage.
My passion for pottery started in high school ceramics class where my teacher, Rob Flye, introduced me to the philosophy of wabi sabi.
I graduated with a business degree from the University of Washington, and then became a secondary math teacher through Teach for America. I've worked in corporate training, curriculum design, and even marketing.
A decade of career changes left me unfulfilled, and making pottery full-time represents my journey back to peace and grounding.
I pour my heart into crafting pottery that embodies the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi - celebrating the beauty of imperfection and impermanence.
My art is made for everyday use, to be an daily reminder that true beauty lies in embracing the imperfect details of life - we are all works in progress, mirroring nature’s raw every-changing essence.
In the studio, I find joy in the simple pleasures - working with my hands, barefoot in the sunlight, and hanging out with my two cats, Suki and Sokka. Outside of the studio, you can find me exploring the great outdoors. Whether I’m rock climbing or catching waves, nature is my greatest muse.
